They are based on the basic human need which says we all desire fantasies which we want to come true. Movies cannot be real, because if they are real, we would never want them. There is a difference between a real movies and realistic movies. real movies are documentaries...either a documentation of past or present or the prediction of future based on the real past and present. realistic movies make a part of what we call in general cinema. a movie being realistic simply means that it's treatment is realistic, it's character sketch development is realistic but all actions of the protagonist are realistic as well except one which is fictional and it is this action of fantasy which sets up the motion for the film. There is atleast one action in a movie which is not real. enough examples quoted by Vikram sir. one more example I would give. Khosla ka ghosla is a realistic film about delhi property feud. but the main action of the decision of the protagonist to get even stevens with the antagonist is itself a fantasy which we would all dream of doing if in the same position but in real might never ever do it. Hence it becomes a fantasy action and once that has been performed, everything is again a realistic action because the transformation of audience has been done and now they are waiting. And whatever happens in a movie, whatever justifies the actions of the hero, the fact that the hero actualy take that action is a fantasy. as rightly said, Sunny paaji is justified in uprooting the handpump and killing so many people. but his action is a fantasy. besides the basic fundamental behind cinema is a dream even when you are showing a true story. because again the facts in a true story based films are all true but they are not real, not atleast for the audience. because otherwise why would audience see it. so if there is no fantasy in cinema, it is not cinema for the audience....Nitin Tewarihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13130725498835101049noreply@blogger.com
